A Dog Day in Jacksonville – UNF Spinnaker

Living in an apartment with a dog can be difficult. You need to find creative ways to train your pup without a garden. Traditional walks are enough, but with so many dog-friendly spots in Jacksonville, you can embark on an adventure with your best bud.

Let’s talk about dog parks. Lately, people seem to be discovering the lucrative dog park bar business. Yeah, you heard that right. Jacksonville now has two dog parks where pet owners and friends can enjoy a coffee or drink of their choice while their dog does the same.

Kanine SocialLocated in downtown Jax, it is perfect for a rainy day. The indoor and outdoor dog park offers the opportunity to play even on cloudy days. It’s not just the animals that are sociable at the boutique dog park – owners have the option of choosing a drink from the beer and coffee menu while meeting other dog friends.

Over the town on the beach Brewhound offers a similar atmosphere. The off-leash dog park is next to the drinks bar where you can buy a variety of hot or cold drinks. You can also try the special ice cream just for dogs. In the off-leash area there are “ruffarees” to ensure safety for everyone.

If public parks are more your style – Paws Park At Davis Park in Ponte, Vedra Beach has two large, fenced-in dog parks on a leash. Both parks have ponds in the middle and obstacles to keep your pups entertained. Unlike the earlier privately owned parks, Paws Park has no entrance fees.

Hungry? Many of Jacksonville’s best restaurants are happy to host your favorite member of the family!

Poe’s tavern Atlantic Beach has an Edgar Allen Poe-themed restaurant that makes some of the best burgers in town. The large outside area is the perfect place to hang out with your pup on a sunny day. They often share #poespups on their Instagram, which includes photos of their four-legged customers.

Over in San Marco, that Bearded pig is home to a delicious BBQ and lovely outdoor space. The terrace is covered, making it a great destination for being “outside” on a rainy day.

After your meal, take a trip to Rita’s Italian ice cream in Jax Beach to pick up dessert for the two of you! Get an ice cream and treat for your pup. Their milk-bone-in-custard combo is free and a fan favorite.

Whichever you choose, one thing is certain, Jacksonville truly is a fun place for everyone.
