Ability Housing Village in Hyde Park, Jacksonville has been awarded platinum certification by the Florida Green Building Coalition
JACKSONVILLE, FL – Ability Housing, a nonprofit developer of affordable apartment buildings, announced today that Village at Hyde Park has earned platinum certification to the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) Homes Standard, the highest level of certification.
The apartment building complex with 80 residential units at 6480 Watergate Lane in the Westside submarket of Jacksonville combines sustainability with affordability. Environmentally friendly construction practices were used throughout the construction process to take into account FGBC criteria such as energy efficiency. Water protection; Site conservation (including the use of native plants, materials and products); Health, a category that takes into account the design of the indoor environment to control air quality and humidity, and involves the construction team in various efforts; Materials (including the use of locally produced, resource-efficient materials and recycled content) and Civil Protection, a category that looks at resilience efforts to withstand the risks of hurricanes and forest fires, as well as pests such as termites.

Every single unit of the 80-unit development is considered to be home and valued as such.

Mary Tappouni, President of Breaking Ground Contracting, acted as the FGBC certification body for the project.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Ability Housing in the Village in Hyde Park. Their balanced approach to meeting the green building goals is remarkable. There have been areas where this particular project stood out, including energy, water and health,” said Tappouni. “We are particularly proud of the efforts of the entire project team in the area of health, one of the eight areas in which this project was assessed.”
Forum Architecture & Interior Design, Inc. acted as the project architect. The general contractor was Sauer Incorporated.
Funding for the $ 18.68 million project was provided by Florida Housing Finance Corporation, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Enterprise Community Investment, Inc., and Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH).
