Bike owner significantly injured after collision with 18-wheel in Jacksonville

The crash occurred on US 301 near Hap’s Way around 4:05 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A cyclist is in critical condition after being hit by an 18-wheeler on Highway 301 in Jacksonville Monday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 18-wheeler was traveling south at the same time as a cyclist who was on the right shoulder, on the left lane of US 301 south.

At around 4:05 p.m., near Hap’s Way on the far western edge of Jacksonville, the bicyclist identified as a 40-year-old man traveled from his right shoulder to his left. The 18-wheeler trailer hit the cyclist as he was crossing the street, the FHP said.

It is unclear why the cyclist turned into the left lane.

The cyclist is currently in critical condition. The driver of the 18-wheeler, a 53-year-old man, was not injured.
