JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Lifeguards working on Jacksonville’s beaches raised a red flag this morning due to dangerous currents.
Action News Jax just received an update from Jacksonville Beach Lt. Maxwell Ervanian who said conditions had not improved. In fact, beach goers are asked not to be in the water for the entire weekend.
Ervanian said lifeguards received around 50 service calls on Saturday, which is highly unusual for a no-vacation.
Despite the warm, sunny weather expected on Sunday, lifeguards want visitors to stay out of the water. Completely.
“Even knee-deep is too far,” said Ervanian.
⚠️🌊 There is still a high risk of currents on the beaches of NE FL. Swim near a lifeguard If you’re caught in a current, wave your arms and call for help. Rip currents are strong water currents that move away from the shore. Stay safe in the surf! #Flwx #jaxwx pic.twitter.com/Tun8aYARTQ
