Jacksonville is holding trip traditions alive throughout the pandemic

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. – A local carriage service offers history tours of Jacksonville and highlights the city’s festive lights.

Gary Rose, owner of Rose’s Horse Drawn Wagon Rides, has been riding for three years.

This time, he says, more people want to see the lights of Jacksonville after the vacation.

“I think it’s just something completely different and very few people have ever taken a car ride,” said Rose. “At this point, people need things to do and it’s definitely a fun event for people. It just brings families together. I just wonder how happy people are. “

Rose gives rides once a day in the evening and the rides are limited to two groups at a time so that people can physically distance themselves.

These are small tweaks that Rose says are worth the reactions he’s getting from customers.

“Seeing the twinkle in the children’s eyes and just the awesomeness and happiness it brings to people – that’s one of the main reasons I do it,” said Rose.

The history tour lasts until January 2nd.
