Jacksonville soccer star shot whereas filling tires on the fuel station

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A former NFL player and Notre Dame star is recovering in hospital after being shot dead at a gas station in Jacksonville.

Louis Nix III, 29, was shot dead at a gate gas station on Airport Center Drive near Jacksonville International Airport around 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. This comes from an incident report from the Sheriff’s Office in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue took Nix to UF Health Hospital in severe condition. Nix posted a video on his Instagram account during the transport saying he was shot and that if he couldn’t make it, he wanted to tell his family and friends that he loved them. In the clip he appears to have a chest wound.

He said he had air in his tires in the gas station parking lot.

Wednesday morning Nix said by phone to News4Jax: “I’m fine.”

He said he posted the video because “it was the best way to get the news out to my family.”

According to the report, Nix told JSO officials that he was shot by an “unknown person”. He told the doctors at UF Health that “the suspects put a flashlight in his face” and that they said, “Give me.”

When Nix pushed the suspect back, he said he felt the shot hit his chest.

A witness, who does not name News4Jax for her safety, said she was sitting at the gas pumps in her vehicle when she heard a “pop” and saw two or three people at the air pump. She said one of the men had a silver pistol. She said they ran behind the car wash after the shooting.

The incident report lists a suspect as a black man aged 16 to 20 who wears a ski mask, an olive green jacket with white fur, black and red shoes, blue jeans, and weighs 100 to 150 pounds.

A second suspect wore a green, yellow, red, and blue jacket, dark blue sweatpants, and red slides. This person was also a black man between the ages of 16 and 20 weighing 100 to 150 pounds.

Nix attended Raines High School, where he was an all-state defender. He then played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was selected by the Houston Texans in the 2014 NFL Draft.

He later played in the practice groups of the New York Giants, Washington Redskins and Jaguars.
