Pursuit of City Meyer Trainers of Jacksonville Jaguars: Which Assistants Are Becoming a member of?

Jacksonville Jaguar’s head coach Urban Meyer has been on duty for over two weeks and has spent a lot of time putting together his first NFL coaching team.

The Jaguars have not yet made any official announcements about attitudes related to Meyer’s coaching staff, but there have been numerous reports of the coaches due to join Meyer in Jacksonville in 2021. Here we try to update the latest news for each role.

Offensive coordinator: Darrell Bevell is expected to be named Jacksonville Offensive Coordinator. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo first reported on Bevell’s hiring. Bevell spent seven seasons in Seattle as the offensive coordinator from 2011 to 2017 and was Detroit’s offensive coordinator for the last two seasons.

Passing game coordinator: Another former Seahawks offensive coordinator is expected to join Jacksonville’s staff in Brian Schottenheimer, who is reportedly the coordinator for the team’s passing game. Tom Pelissero from NFL Network and Adam Schefter from ESPN first reported on the hiring.

Quarterbacks trainer: Indefinite. There has been no official news of hiring quarterbacks coaches, but Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson reported last week that some of the names under consideration are Mike McCoy and Mike Sullivan.

Running Backs Coach: Indefinite. It is not yet clear whether coach Terry Robiskie will join Meyer’s staff.

Tight Ends Trainer: According to Sean Fitz of Lions247, the Jaguars will hire Penn State co-offensive coordinator / tight-end trainer Tyler Bowen. Bowen has a track record as both a tight-end coach and an offensive line coach at the college football level. He named games for Penn State in the 2019 Cotton Bowl when the Nittany Lions set a school record for points in a bowl game at 53.

Offensive bus: Indefinite, but CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reported Jan. 19 that Meyer is expected to keep offensive coach George Warhop.

The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec said former Ravens deputy defensive coach Sterling Lucas will also be reportedly with the Jaguars.

Linebacker trainer: Indefinite. Brett McMurphy of the stadium reported that Charlie Strong would likely be the linebacker coach, but the Jaguars also interviewed former Baltimore Ravens defense assistant Zach Orr for the position, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
