RICHMOND, Va .– The University of Richmond’s 13th men’s lacrosse improved to 4: 0 in the game of the Southern Conference and to 34: 5 in the regular SoCon games of the season in program history, when the Spiders on Saturday at Robins Stadium a 14: 7 – Recorded victory against Jacksonville. The Spiders outperformed the Dolphins 7-1 in the third quarter and are now alone on the SoCon ranking as the only undefeated team in the league in the conference game.

Sophomore attack Dalton Young (Chantilly, Va.) led seven Spider goalscorers with four strong goals and increased his season in nine games to 28 goals. Sophomore attack Richie Connell (Evergreen, Colorado) scored three goals in victory while midfielder Mitch Savoca (Newtown, Conn.) and Tyler Shoults (Warners, NY) Everyone added a pair of goals.

The Spiders (5-4, 4-0 SoCon) opened the ranking with only two goals in the first quarter. Savoca and Connell scored the first two goals of the game before Jacksonville scored the first goal of the game early in the second quarter. Young scored two goals in the second quarter ahead of Shoults and Ryan Lanchbury (Burlington, Ontario) Tallied markers give the Spiders a 6-3 lead at halftime.

Richmond broke the game in the third quarter and prevailed 7-1 in the 15th minute against the Dolphins. Shoults, Young and Connell scored three goals in a lapse of 2:55 to start the run before Jacksonville slowed the flow for a moment. The spiders scored four hits in a row at the end of the quarter and a total of five in a row.

Long stick midfielder Jake Kapp (Pepper Pike, Ohio) scored his first career college goal early on in the run before Young scored his fourth goal. Jack Delligatti (Summerfield, NC) and Connell finished the quarter before Savoca scored a 14-4 goal early in the fourth.

Graduate goalkeeper Jack Rusbuldt (Richmond, VA) kept the dolphins to six goals in 57:38 action while 11 parades were posted. Long stick midfielder graduate Sean Menges (Richmond, VA) led the team with five ground balls. The spiders controlled the face-off and won 17 out of 24 that day. Jacob Griffin (Skokie, Ill.) won 10 out of 14 during Andrew Hamilton (Mount Pleasant, SC) won 6 out of 8.

Jacksonville (6-5, 3-1 SoCon) had three different players who scored two goals in the loss, with Matt Stagnitta and Evan Tyler taking the lead on three points each. Goalkeeper Jason Yoquinto made seven saves in the defeat and allowed 14 goals in 60 minutes.

Richmond closes the regular season on May 1, when the Air Force hosts the final competition prior to the SoCon tournament, also held at Robins Stadium in May.
