The goal is to make Jacksonville a year-round destination for gamers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Urban Meyer sees the potential in Jacksonville. He also sees the need for changes.

Meyer covered a variety of topics Tuesday afternoon as the team prepares for the freelance agency to begin next week.

One area of improvement, Meyer said, is the ability to make Jacksonville a year-round destination for gamers and their families. Meyer didn’t offer details, but suggested a new facility such as training, strength and conditioning, and a training location. He brought this up at his first press conference and mentioned it again last week when he sat down with the team’s internal media group.

“We call it the culture of excellence. We expect everything to be the best of the best. And right now it’s not here in Jacksonville. There are a lot of great things out there. There are certain areas that are not. So my job and my pressure are very tough … especially when you talk about player health and safety, I expect it to be for the best, ”said Meyer.

“So we push hard and our owner Shad [Khan]It was fantastic listening and learning as we expect and he expects the best of the best. So we are in the middle of this conversation. “

This conversation is likely not a new stadium right now, but facilities in and around TIAA Bank Field.

Team President Mark Lamping said last November that the Jaguars would need an upgrade of the TIAA Bank Field, which comes with an extension of the lease, which currently runs until 2030. Meyer believes that the Jaguars can not only take advantage of the favorable tax situation in Florida (no state income tax), but also strengthen the team facilities here.

“I love the city of Jacksonville. I love the state of Florida. The fact that there is the tax problem that you didn’t have to have in college. It was recruiting. I never spoke to recruits about tax issues. But that’s reality when you talk about professional football, ”said Meyer. “It’s a place where you can live very comfortably 12 months a year and start a family here. So I refuse to believe that this cannot become a destination for a free agent or a great player.

“And we have to make sure that everything is in place for this player to want to be here. And I’m not just talking August through December, January. I’m just one more time, maybe it’s a dream, but this is a dream I’ll hold onto, that one day I’ll see our players here live, train, get the best training possible and live in Jacksonville, Florida, enjoy. ”
