The Jacksonville dental workplace has a candy tooth to assist our troops

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WITN) – A dental office gives our troops overseas a sweet taste of home.

Lesan Family Dentistry is taking part in a candy campaign for the fifth time in a row. This time, however, they are working with NC Packs 4 Patriots to hand out the sugar.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s Halloween candy or Christmas,” said Barbara Whitehead, director of Packs 4 Patriots. “Because a Snickers bar is a Snickers bar.”

The group is again collecting candy for care packages for troops overseas. That year, however, Whitehead said the candy was harder to come by.

According to Whitehead, there are typically about 12 dental offices across North Carolina participating in the campaign. However, only three people are taking part this year, including Lesan Family Dentistry. The other offices, including the largest donor of up to 6,000 pounds of candy, have decided not to attend because of the virus.

“If we do the math, we need candy,” said Whitehead.

Lesan Family Dentistry joined in. They offered to buy back candy on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for $ 2.00 a pound.

ā€œI was one of those military members. I was a dentist at Camp Lejeune a long time ago, ā€said Doug Lesan, owner of the practice. ā€œWhen I was gone, when I got a package in the mail, I just felt good that the people at home were actually thinking of us. When you go overseas, you just don’t have the luxury of going to a grocery store and buying a candy bar. “

It’s a two-pronged donation, said Lesan, that helps your teeth and helps a service member who is missing a sweet part of your home.

“We never want to forget your ministry and sacrifice,” said Whitehead. “We always want them to know that we care and appreciate them.”

Although the buyback program ended at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, the donation box will remain out of the office until Thursday. The office is located at 123 Cobia Court in Jacksonville.
