JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – UPDATE 05/06/2021 6:15 p.m .:
When the Jacksonville firefighters first arrived on site, they were told that someone was in the house. They went inside and tried to provide a rescue, but found that there was no one in the house.
After trying to save the fire, they put out the fire when one of the firefighters was badly burned.
The burns were caused by steam penetrating his protective gear.
The firefighter was burned to his ears, neck and shoulders, but the fire chief said the burns to his wrists were worrying.
He was taken to the University of Florida at Gainesville to meet with a burn doctor, but the boss said he is expected to make a full recovery.
Firefighters are still investigating what caused the house fire.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) said one of their firefighters was rushed to hospital after fighting a fire at Restlawn Dr. Thursday helped.
